AAP protest in Chhattisgarh Vidhansabha

Discussion on budget was going on when Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers staged a demonstration outside the Chhattisgarh Assembly on 24th Feb 2014, demanding among other things arrest of BJP MP Sohan Potai for his alleged links with Maoists supporters.

"Twenty-nine AAP volunteers, including women, who were protesting outside Vidhansabha, have been arrested & taken to Vidhansabha Police Station. As the assembly session was going on, the incident pointed to major security lapse & IG G P Singh was reported to rush to Vidhansabha immediately.

The detained AAP protesters were then taken to Raipur Central Jail in different vehicles. The officials in Central Jail had no idea as to what to do with the arrested volunteers. They recorded the details of detainees, took signatures & kept waiting for further instructions till 4 pm. It was then the instructions came to sent them to different police stations separately in group of 5 to 6.

The volunteers as well as the in charge of respective police stations had no idea of charges to be framed & further action. They were sent to Khamtarayi Thana, Gudhiyaari Thana, Ganj Police Thana, Telibandha Police Thana, Dindayal Upadhyay Nagar Police Thana, Tikrapara Police Thana & the only woman volunteer to Mahila Police Thana. In the night at around 8pm, the CSP visited all police stations & asked the Thana In charge to seize their mobile phones. The volunteers haven’t been informed about the charges labeled till midnight.

When asked about the Raipur Superintendent of Police O P Pal’s statement that AAP activists were disguised as villagers and brought the brooms and posters in their vehicles, AAP Raipur District Secretary Sandip Tiwari, said that they were not disguised, they simply kept the posters & brooms in the vehicles & no one bothered to check.

“Why the police not following any defined procedures?” Doesn’t it implies that the police was working entirely on political pressure? .

On 25th noon they were produced in court with charges framed under section 143, 186 & section 188.They were released on bail of Rs.10,000 each. The first hearing is scheduled for 10th March 2014.He further stated that the main issue AAP raised is being sidelined by the Vidhansabha’s Security Issue.

We are educated law abiding citizens & we wanted to raise the issue how the BJP MP Sohan Potai is being protected by the Raman Government despite the MP’s car being used by the fugitive Dharmendra Chopra working with urban network of Naxals in the region. The Chopra brothers also named the MP besides the names of Vikram Usendi, BJP MLA & Ex Minister of Raman Government in the 2nd tenure and Mohan Mandavi Congress MLA & Ex Minister of Ajit Jogi government. But no actions were taken against them. Aam Aadmi Party therefore demands the matter to be investigated by CBI or judicial enquiry by Supreme Court judge.

AAP’s second demand in the protest was “Removal of Liquor shops from market areas, from the vicinity of Schools, religious places, Hospitals etc”. Raman Singh’s government hasn’t developed any other means of revenue generation & seems to be solely dependent on liquor sale in the state, which is leading to increased crime in the state.

AAP also demanded strict implementation of “Right to Education” in the private schools running in the state. AAP Raipur, District Convener & a State Campaign Committee Member Suraj Upadhyay stated that Government is allowing the schools to be run like an enterprise churning out huge sums of profit, with no fear of any regulations, with no attention to education.

The party wanted support price of Rs 2,100 and bonus of Rs 300 for paddy farmers as per BJP's poll promise.

Dr Sanket Thakur, Convener, State Campaign Committee demanded release of innocent tribal’s lodged in jails for alleged Naxal links without any substantial proofs, only on doubts. He further said that the procedures are being openly flouted by police authorities under the state government’s instructions. The Supreme Court has clearly instructed the government in Soni Sori case that in any case unjustified arrest & tortures are highly objectionable and it further aggravates the menace of naxalism.

Salute to the spirit of the woman detainee Meenakshi Kour of AAP Bhilai, when she came for protest leaving her 4 year old kid at home. She was upfront in the protest & stood strongly at Vidhansabha.

I myself on detention, i observed other AAP krantikari's taking very good care of us & i  must say that their spirit was really commendable.Salute to them as well.

This is just the beginning my friends, a lot more will come when the election days comes closer. The day the corrupts in power see us as a serious threat to their empire, we will be targeted at every level. The only thing these guys wont understand is that they are facing the Krantikaris, the insane patriots, who won't stop.
